The Charlotte Museum of History has announced that it received a donation from the Lowe’s Foundation to assist with the Save Siloam School Project, which is an effort to move the school from its current location near UNC Charlotte to the Charlotte Museum of History’s grounds in east Charlotte. The article below notes that this donation will allow the Museum to “launch a formal Request for Qualification process, which will appoint an architect to lead the restoration and relocation.”

The Charlotte Agenda has produced an informative article detailing the history of highway construction around Charlotte and how this construction primarily affected historically Black neighborhoods. The Excelsior Club and the Hawkins House are mentioned in the article and demonstrate the vital role the Historic Landmarks Commission plays in protecting properties that may otherwise be lost.

a.  From Brian Clarke: “I remain in contact with the dendrochronologist at the Univ of Louisville and she remains very interested in a research trip down here.  I sent her some samples from my house to take a preliminary look at.  I also (just now) threw out the possibility of me/us collecting samples from some other log houses around these parts to add to her database as she has indicated that the dating data on pine logs from the Piedmont is not the best and that she is working to expand it.  [I was thinking in particular about the Davidson cabin, Wallace house, Latta (?), Stafford Slave Cabin, etc.]”
