Charlotte City Council has unanimously approved Oaklawn Park’s petition to become a locally designated historic district. This makes the neighborhood “the first historic district designated in Charlotte in a decade,” as reported by The Charlotte Observer. The article below explains how this designation will help preserve the historic character of Oaklawn Park, but how work must continue to ensure the affordability of the neighborhood.

The Historic Landmarks Commission has approved the relocation of Shotgun House A and B from their current location at 711 and 715 East 7th Street in Charlotte to west Charlotte. The houses will be used as Accessory Dwelling Units with the intent that they will provide affordable housing for the community.
