The Charlotte Agenda has produced an informative article detailing the history of highway construction around Charlotte and how this construction primarily affected historically Black neighborhoods. The Excelsior Club and the Hawkins House are mentioned in the article and demonstrate the vital role the Historic Landmarks Commission plays in protecting properties that may otherwise be lost.
