The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission is currently in the process of designating the Charles Barnhardt House, located at 2377 County Club Lane in Charlotte as a local historic landmark. The HLC is also considering purchasing a portion of the property. Discussions about preservation strategies continue between HLC Staff and the the owner of the property. Staff has initiated due diligence, including obtaining estimates for the refurbishment of the house and grounds. The City is allowing the owner to construct a pedestrian walkway on the property instead of requiring a connector street. This means that the Commission will be able to accomplish its purposes through the purchase of four lots. The owner has secured the doors to the house, and Preservation North Carolina has arranged for the installation of a security system.
