At its December 2007 meeting the Survey
Committee recommended that the Solomon Levine House be processed for
historic landmark designation, but the Commission delayed final action until
other modernist structures could be brought before the Commission.
Here are the two motions.
DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. NORMAN TO
RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE SOLOMON AND
SHIRLEY LEVINE HOUSE (INTERIOR, EXTERIOR AND LOT), 2300 CLOISTER DRIVE,
CHARLOTTE, N.C., BE PROCESSED FOR HISTORIC LANDMARK DESIGNATION. THE
COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
MR. NORMAN PRESENTED A MOTION SECONDED BY MR. CAMPBELL
TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION THAT THE CHARLOTTE
COLISEUM ON INDEPENDENCE BOULEVARD, OVENS AUDITORIUM, THE SECOND WARD
GYMNASIUM AND THE SHIRLEY AND SOLOMON LEVINE HOUSE ALL BE PRESENTED TO
CHARLOTTE CITY COUNCIL AT THE SAME TIME FOR CONSIDERATION FOR HISTORIC
LANDMARK DESIGNATION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
Because of delays in processing other
modernist structures, especially the Charlotte Coliseum, Staff is
recommending that the Solomon Levine House be processed independently from
other modernist structures. Click
