The Historic Landmarks Commission and the Board of Trustees of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church  met to finalize the Commission's purchase of the historic church building.

This is an early 1900's photograph of Edna Rattley (holding baby), daughter of John and Sarah Rattley, with her cousins Estelle (front seat) and Cora (middle seat) Tate.   The woman in the back seat is unidentified.  In the background is Grace A.M.E. Zion Church.

Founded in 1886, Grace Church purchased the site in August 1887.  The current building was dedicated on July 13, 1902. The block contained from left to right the homes of J. T. Williams, W. S. Smith, Grace Church, and the Mecklenburg Investment Co. Building.
