We need volunteers\, and what could be better than spending an Autumn morning in the beautiful hallowed grounds of the Historic Steele Creek Cemetery? The cemetery contains headstones dating from 1763 and is the site of some of the most important funerary art in NC!\n  \n\n\n\nBut recently air pollution has been hastening the stones’ deterioration. Luckily\, cleaning the headstones with a mild biodegradable\, pH neutral solution can protect them effectively for years. And that’s what we will be doing! Did we mention that we need volunteers? For instructions on attending the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission virtual public hearing\, visit the Commission’s website at www.landmarkscommission.org or contact the Commission at 980-314-7660. \nThe hearing will allow the public to comment on the potential historic landmark designation of the “Renfrow Commercial Properties\,” listed under Tax Parcel Identification Numbers 21501303\, 21501304\, 21501416\, and 21501417\, and including the exterior of the frame building located on Tax Parcel Identification Number 21501303\, the exterior of the gin operator’s house and brick commercial building located on Tax Parcel Identification Number 21501304\, and the land listed under Tax Parcel Identification Numbers 21501303\, 21501304\, 21501416\, and 21501417 in the Mecklenburg County Tax Office\, Charlotte\, North Carolina as of December 1\, 2022). Said properties are owned by PCM Holdings LLC\, and are located at 156 North Trade Street\, 106 North Trade Street\, and 125 East John Street\, all in Matthews\, North Carolina. Such designation would be pursuant to Chapter 160D\, Article 9\, as amended\, of the General Statutes of North Carolina.

Pretty cool\, right? Now known as Bojangles Coliseum\, it’s located next to Ovens Auditorium\, which will also be included in our tour!
