Education Committee
September 8, 2003

Dr. Morrill stated that officials
of the County Public Relations Department would like to come to
the next meeting of the Committee to explain the advantages of having
the HLC's website placed on the County's internet server. It was
agreed that such a discussion would occur at the next meeting of the
Education Committee
Ross Richardson went over the
various assignments for Committee members. Valerie Lewis and Mike
Sullivan will be coordinating a publicity event for the Historic
Landmarks Commission, such as an opening of the Palmer Fire School.
Yolanda Johnson-Gess and Amy Hockett will coordinate the HLC's
participation in Historic Charlotte's Blast For The Past. Mike
Sullivan will oversee a public event for elected officials and will make
a presentation to the Board of County Commissioners about the work of
the HLC.
Mike Sullivan discussed the status
of Kenneth Whitsett's Mural depicting the history of Mecklenburg County.
It was agreed that the Education Committee should ask the Survey
Committee to consider recommending the placement of the Mural on the
Study List of prospective historic landmarks.
There was interest expressed in
having the Commission co-sponsor with Historic Charlotte a workshop
explaining the Historic Preservation Income Tax Credits available for
National Register properties.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
