Item #1 – Chairman’s
Mr. Benson welcomed
everyone to the meeting.
Item #2 – Director’s
Dr. Morrill briefly
told the group about the situation that has arisen with respect to American
Legion Memorial Stadium. The Committee agreed that the forthcoming COA
application would be brought before the Committee and will not be treated as
a Minor Works.
Item #3 – Applications
for a Certificate of Appropriateness
Charlotte Fire Station Number 4,
420 W. 5th Street, Charlotte, N. C.
The applicant (present at
meeting) proposes to convert the building to a restaurant. Mr. Gray
presented the proposed design plans for the group to consider. The owner
answered questions. Almost none of the original fabric will be destroyed.
DR. MATTSON PRESENTED A
MOTION SECONDED BY MR. GIESER TO RECOMMEND TO THE HISTORIC LANDMARKS
COMMISSION THAT THE APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR
CHARLOTTE FIRE STATION NUMBER 4, 420 WEST 5T STREET, CHARLOTTE, N. C., BE
APPROVED AS PRESENTED WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE APPLICANT WILL PROVIDE
DEPICTIONS TO HLC STAFF, BEFORE APRIL 12, 2010, OF THE HANDICAPPED ACCESS
RAMP FOR THE MAIN ENTRANCE, THE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE OUTSIDE EATING AREA IN
FRONT OF THE BUILDING, THE SIGNAGE FOR THE FRONT ENTRANCE, THE FINAL SECOND
FLOOR AND THE SCREENING FOR THE THREE LARGE DOORS ON THE FRONT OF THE
BUILDING. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
