Dr. Morrill reported that he and Mr. Gray met on March 11th with the Economic Development Committee of City Council to discuss the processing of properties for prospective historic landmark designation by the City.  The Committee agreed that three properties presently in the queue should move forward:  WPA Douglas Airport Hangar, Tuckaseegee Ford Trail, and the Thrift P&N Depot.  Two other properties in process -- S. B. Alexander House and the Queens Terrace Apartments -- will have to await answering concerns that Councilperson, Ms. Patsy Kinsey, will present to City Staff.

Dr. Morrill explained that the Town of Pineville has requested that the Park Ave. section of the Pineville Mill Village be placed on the Study List for prospective historic landmark designation.  Dr. Morrill stated that the Town of Pineville has agreed to pay one-half of the cost of the preparation of the Survey and Research Report.  If approved, the Commission would pay the remaining half -- $2000 each.

Mr. Travis Morgan, planner for the Town of Pineville, confirmed that the Town favors the placement of the Park Ave. section of the Pineville Mill Village on the Study List of prospective historic landmarks.

Mr. William Smith, owner of two houses on Park Ave. in Pineville, asked questions about the impact of historic landmark designation, and Commissioners and Staff responded.

SECTION OF THE PINEVILLE MILL VILLAGE BE PLACED ON THE STUDY LIST OF PROSPECTIVE HISTORIC LANDMARKS AND THAT THE COMMISSION PAY UP TO $2000 OF THE COST OF THE PREPARATION OF THE REPORT, WITH THE TOWN OF PINEVILLE PAYING THE REMAINDER OF THE COST.
